Event Description: Algoma U is proud to present After the Last River, a point-of-view documentary by filmmaker Victoria Lean. The film, shot over a five-year period, places the spotlight on Attawapiskat First Nation and the community's complicated relationship with the mining industry, which culminates with the Idle No More protests that put Attawapiskat on the map. After the Last River artfully demonstrates the interconnectedness of the well-being of the First Nation community with the corporate agendas of the mining industry. The film exposes the duality of Attawapiskat: a profitable, resource-rich territory to some; a vulnerable, endangered home to others. The screening will be followed by a discussion led by the filmmaker Victoria Lean.
This is a FREE event - all are welcome. The film will be shown in Room H116 at the Northern College Campus. Please enter the campus from the east side parking lot (closest to Porcupine Mall).
