On September 20, Timmins Gracie Jiu-Jitsu celebrated 3 years of business in Timmins by offering free seminars open to the public including: a bully proof seminar, introduction to jiu jitsu fundamentals, and women empowerment. The event also featured membership and in-store product sales.
Kris Ratte, owner and head instructor, took a few moments to answer a few questions about his business.
Q: Provide a brief description of your business.
Since 1925, over 40 members of the Gracie Family have dedicated their lives to developing the most effective system of self-defense the world has ever known. Today, the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy is a global organization which stands alone in its ability to empower anyone -- regardless of age, gender, or athletic ability -- using the time-tested techniques and teaching methods perfected over the last century.
Timmins Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a Level 3 Certified Training Center with the Gracie Academy.
Q: How many employees do you have?
One full-time employee and six part-time employees.
Q: What factors have helped you to successfully reach this particular milestone?
Location, cleanliness of location, programs offered, scheduling, customer service, and professional instruction.
Q: What has been your most memorable moment in business?
Changing locations in 2013 from Schumacher to downtown.
Q: What’s one interesting thing about your business that people might not be aware of?
We were the second Certified Training Center with the Gracie Academy in all of Canada (the other was in British Columbia). There are now three locations in Ontario, one in Manitoba, one in Alberta, two in B.C. and one in Quebec.
Q: What is the biggest challenge you have overcome as a business to reach this milestone?
Financial difficulties, maintaining inventory, and building a reliable team.
Q: What has your experience doing business in Timmins been like thus far?
Great – our clients are amazing, and we receive fantastic feedback.
Q: What can we expect from your business in the future? Are there any plans on the horizon you would like people to know about?
Expansion to other markets and offering other programs.
