Identify the Issue
Gather feedback from our members and identify what issues are impacting your business. Develop the Policy
The Policy Committee determines the possible course of action. An outline is prepared highlighting the background and target objectives, and the constructive solutions necessary to achieve them. |
Understand the Issues
Is it under municipal, provincial or federal control? Does it affect other businesses? Can the Chamber influence the outcome? The Policy Debate
The policy is discussed and amended by the Policy Committee until it is approved by the Board of Directors. The ask or recommendation needs to be specific, tangible and measurable. |
Research
What information is needed before taking action? Advocate (Action)
Decide on the most appropriate means of action- letter writing, media releases, member info session, or resolutions with the Ontario Chamber or Canadian Chamber. |
Strength of our Network
The Timmins Chamber has prepared the following policy statements in response to member concerns over the past several years. Please note that polices supported by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and Canadian Chamber of Commerce are only valid for a period of three years.
As the voice of business in Timmins, the Chamber of Commerce works with its members on both policy and advocacy to ensure the strongest possible business environment for our members. This means hearing from members on what could be done municipally, provincially and federally to help them do business better, and then working to make those ideas a reality.
As an organization, the Chamber works to research and identify issues of importance or concern for business, often through committees. Through rigorous work and consultation, the Chamber sometimes develops position papers or policies on these issues.
